Basic Information:
 
SPIN is seeking interns with strong backgrounds in writing and a serious interest in music and youth culture for editorial intern positions. SPIN employs interns during its Spring (January to May), Summer (June to August), and Fall (September to December) programs. Interns work 16-24 hours per week (two or three full days) and will receive college credit. All editorial internships are completed at our New York offices in Manhattan. SPIN does not provide housing or travel assistance.
 
About the Intern Program:
Interns are responsible for transcribing interviews, researching stories, updating release and event schedules, running errands, organizing mail, conducting interviews. Interns also pitch and write stories for SPIN
 
Application Materials:
Complete intern applications include a cover letter, résumé, and 2 to 4 clips. Applicants without published clips are encouraged to submit music-related pieces (reviews or news stories) written on their own. There is no formal application form.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Financial Analyst reports to the Director, Finance & Strategy. This person will be responsible for performing a wide range of financial analysis and forecasting, as well as support the creation and implementation of new financial processes and systems. This individual will work in partnership with all departments to support the Company’s financial operations, including establishing the budget, monthly financial close support, and reporting processes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage weekly revenue forecasting, track sales team productivity and prepare sales dashboards for management and Board review
  • Assist with month-end close activities including review and analysis of general ledger accounts, profitability analysis, cash flow results, etc.
  • Maintain monthly financial statement reporting; provide monthly variance analysis of actuals versus budget and prepare Board and Bank reporting packages; from such analysis, work with departmental managers to develop corrective action steps for negative budget variances
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process and subsequent re-forecasts
  • Create regular reporting for department heads to track expenses and identify areas for cost savings
  • Work with Human Resources on compensation management priorities and reporting
  • Support financial system implementation (travel expense management, job costing, etc.)
  • Prepare presentation materials for Board and Bank-related meetings
  • Review Company’s current reporting deliverables and offer suggestions for enhancement, including recommendation for streamlining
  • Support Director, Finance & Strategy requirements, including ad-hoc analytical projects to inform critical business decisions and automate reporting as needed


Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of previous work experience in Finance or Accounting
  • BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field preferred
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations
  • Must be analytical, detail oriented, and a self-starter
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential and highly sensitive financial or other information

OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT
The Ad Product Marketing department is responsible for supporting the ad sales, integrating marketing, and various teams by providing customized, scalable, and cross-platform (desktop, mobile, tablet) advertising solutions across all of our properties.  Our goal is to provide the best and most innovative solutions that help drive revenue for SpinMedia, bring interactive brand experiences to our users, and meet and exceed the goals and objectives of our clients.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Join ad product brainstorms and contribute creative ideas
  • Assist in competitor research and monitor the latest and greatest cross-platform ad solutions in the marketplace
  • Assist in the creation of sales and ad product marketing materials (PPT presentations, Word documents, Excel Reference Docs)
  • Assist with the production of post-sales ad product initiatives
  • Update ad product marketing and research materials (PPT presentations, Excel spreadsheets and Word docs)
  • Set up various meetings with internal groups on proactive ad product ideas (Native Ads, Site Features, Custom Out-of-the-Box Solutions, Social, App integration, etc)

REQUIREMENTS
